Tagore, “Father of the Nation, India” Mahatma Gandhi, etc.

How to enter such a world-class university?
Let’s look at the experiences of Alice Yang and Lucy Luo!

Alice:
• Full scholarship winner of Ellesmere College
• IELTS Score: 8
• First Prize of High School Team, China Daily “21st Century Cup” National High School and Primary School English Speaking Competition in Liaoning Province
• First Prize of High School Team, National English Proficiency Competition for School Students
• First Prize of Junior School Team, National English Proficiency Competition for School Students
• SETRA National English Vocabulary Evaluation, Level Ten

Alice entered Unibridge when she was in Grade 3, and it has been 8 years since she started to learn New Concept English I-IV and senior IELTS course from Aileen and Jane.

She is elite and she is gentle and quiet at class, but when she is on speaking stage, she becomes quite confident and eloquent. When she first time took the admission exam to British school at Unibridge, she has already got the scholarship of Lime House School. However, she did not choose to accept it, but to challenge herself to a higher scholarship. Finally, she got the full scholarship of English boarding school Ellesmere College in the year of 2015.

During her studying time in the UK, she got the Best Award of Maths, Physics, Economics and English in Ellesmere at her first year. As she said, there are various courses in English high schools, not just compulsory courses, but also many optional courses. The class pays much attention to students’ outputs, and gives chance to every student to show their own presentation skills.

The class in English high school focuses on practicing critical thinking and manual dexterity. In-class debate is an important part of teaching. The topics are also updated, such as “Influences on Economy after Brexit”, “Does it only have negative effects on the UK after accepting refugees?” and some other critical topics.

Except for homework, Alice also introduced plenty of campus activities and community events in her sharing. She participated in the hiking programme of Duke of Edinburgh Award several times. There will be six to seven people in a group, and go backpacking for five to six days per time. They take care of their own outdoor board and lodging, which greatly practice students’ viability and perseverance.

Lucy:
• Full scholarship winner of Ellesmere College
• IELTS Score: 8 (listening: 9, Comprehension: 8.5)
• Runner-up of Junior High School Team, National English Proficiency Competition for School Students

• First Prize of Junior High School Team, CCTV “Star of Outlook” English Talent Competition

Lucy entered Unibridge when she was in Grade 5, and it has been 5 years since she started to learn New Concept English II-IV from Jane, and then she learnt senior IELTS course together with Alice. Alice and Lucy’s IELTS score are 7.5 and 7 respectively when they took the exam at the first time. (Lucy got an 8 at the second time.). After then, she successfully applied for full scholarship of Ellesmere College.

Lucy is a very lively girl. She hosts large-scale party at school, attend artistic performances, play the erhu, and also likes to run on the playing field. Lucy is always the outstanding student in every English competition. Drama is also one of her interests.

Lucy is the communicator of Chinese and English culture in Ellesmere. She introduces China to her classmates, and teaches Chinese class for low-age students.

Schools in the UK have colourful extracurricular activities, which provide Lucy a better stage to have a chance to show herself. Together with Alice, she attended campus charity party and community events, and also participated in Duke of Edinburgh Award Programme to go backpacking and harden herself.

Culture and the Elite Education Forum

Alice and Lucy hosted and made a speech together at Unibridge Culture and the Elite Education Forum in the year of 2016. Some other elite alumni who entered world famous school also attended the education forum. They used to be the audiences, but now they become the sharers because they achieve the dream of entering international schools from Unibridge.

What else will Alice and Lucy share with us?
Stay tuned!
